About the blue-crowned laughingthrush

The blue-crowned laughingthrush is one of the rarest songbirds in the world, endemic to subtropical forest fragments in Jiangxi Province, China. It is recognised by its blue crown, olive body, and pale eye ring.

Living in small family groups, it feeds on invertebrates and fruit within forest understorey habitats.

Conservation

The species is classified as Critically Endangered, with fewer than 300 individuals left in the wild. This extremely small population is threatened by habitat loss and trapping in southeastern China.
