About the chattering lory

The chattering lory is native to the North Maluku islands of Indonesia, where it inhabits lowland and secondary forest. Its vivid red and green plumage and black facial markings make it unmistakable.

It feeds on fruit and nectar within tropical forest canopies.

Conservation

The species is classified as Near Threatened, with trapping for the wildlife trade and habitat loss in Indonesia contributing to declines.
