About the marbled teal

The marbled teal is a softly coloured duck with pale buff plumage and a distinctive dark eye stripe. It inhabits brackish lagoons, wetlands, and shallow marshes, where it feeds on seeds and aquatic invertebrates.

Unlike some more gregarious ducks, marbled teal often gather in small, loose flocks outside the breeding season.

Conservation

The species is classified as Near Threatened, with wetland degradation and hunting affecting populations across the Mediterranean and western Palearctic region.
