About the phantasmal poison dart frog

The phantasmal poison dart frog is a small but vivid species from the foothills of the Andes. Measuring 4–5 centimetres, it is typically red to brown with a pale stripe running along each side of the body.

These frogs are active during the day and feed on small invertebrates. Like other poison frogs, their bright colours warn predators of their chemical defences.

Conservation

This species is currently listed as Endangered, with habitat destruction and land-use change in Ecuador posing significant threats.
