About the yellow-headed poison frog

The pleasing poison frog is a striking rainforest species from the Amazon foothills. Measuring 6–8 centimetres, it has green to brown colouring and is active during the day, moving confidently across the forest floor.

It inhabits tropical moist forest in Peru and feeds on small invertebrates. Despite its small size, its bold colours signal that it carries chemical defences derived from its insect diet.

Conservation

This species is currently listed as Least Concern, but habitat loss in Peru’s Amazon foothills remains a long-term conservation concern.
