About the spectacled owl

The spectacled owl is a large tropical forest owl found from southern Mexico, through Central America, and into northern South America, including Brazil, Paraguay, and northwestern Argentina. It inhabits dense woodland and rainforest, often near water, and hunts at night for small mammals, birds, reptiles, and large insects.

Conservation

This species is classified as Least Concern, although deforestation and persecution in parts of its range can cause local declines across Central and South America.
